We invite organisations and Law School alumni to come and speak to students. Do not miss out on hearing about the range of opportunities and various career paths on offer to graduates of Edinburgh Law School and the University of Edinburgh.

This is a chance to meet professionals, learn more about career options, and where your degree can take you.

Semester 1

Edinburgh Law School - Career Days [25 September and 2 October]

Our Career Days provide an opportunity for students to meet representatives from a select group of law firms over snacks and refreshments.

Edinburgh Law School - Insight Evenings

Insight events are more in-depth introductions to the firms and gives students the chance to learn about the unique career opportunities which they offer to graduating students. The events also allow you to meet and network with solicitors at every stage of their careers within the firms, including more informally after the firm’s presentations are concluded.

Places are limited for the Insight Evenings, registration is required.

Look out for further events in Semester 2, including the School's Festival of Legal Possibilities.

Legal Networking

Monday, 7 October 1.10-1.55pm
This online session  gives advice on how to network effectively and highlights platforms and events where students with an interest in law can network. A great way to prepare for the Careers in Law Fair on Thursday 10 October!

University of Edinburgh Careers in Law Fair 2024

Thursday, 10 October, 1-4.30pm
Location: McEwan Hall, Bristo Square.

Employers represent independent Scottish firms, national firms offering training through Scotland and/or England/ Wales plus larger international firms – we hope there is something for everyone, from first years to postgraduate students. 

During the day we will have a number of first-come-first-served talks for you to listen in to:

  • Talk 1 - 1:30 – 2:00pm: Routes to practise in Scots Law with the Law Society of Scotland
  • Talk 2 - 2:30 – 3:00pm: Routes to practise in English/Welsh Law with the University of Law
  • Talk 3 - 3:30 – 4:00pm: Routes to practise in US Law with Barbri

Career Spotlight: Routes into Law

Friday, 11 October 1.10-1.55pm
Routes in to train as a solicitor in two UK jurisdictions: Scotland and England/Wales. Aspiring solicitors will learn the steps to take to qualify in each jurisdiction and know how to plan and develop for a future legal career, whatever your current stage of study.

University of Edinburgh Careers in Law Fair

Employers represent independent Scottish firms, national firms offering training through Scotland and/or England/ Wales plus larger international firms – we hope there is something for everyone, from first years to postgraduate students. In addition to this 3 student societies will be in attendance: Law Students’ Council; Future Lawyers: Law Society for Non-Law and the Law Society. 

Three short talks take place through the day:
