Festival of Legal Possibilities

Join us for an engaging discussion around life as an in-house counsel.

A varied panel of alumni and friends working in in-house roles across a wide spectrum of legal jurisdictions and remits will discuss their experiences and roles, before opening the floor to questions. 

If you want to learn more about the role of in-house legal services, this is the perfect opportunity to find out more, discover what opportunities are out there, and what the similarities and differences are across a broad spectrum of institutions.

Louise Kelso

Louise (LLB ’00) is General Counsel and Director of Legal Services at the University of Edinburgh, advising on a wide range of legal issues including International and Strategic Projects, Research & Commercialisation, Contracts and Collaborations, Operational and Academic matters and Dispute Resolution. In addition, Louise has strategic responsibility for the University’s Information Compliance Services and Data Protection team. She is a member of the University Executive and sits on a number of University Committees. Prior to joining the University, Louise was a partner in a leading UK law firm, specialising in litigation and dispute resolution and accredited as a mediator and a specialist in professional negligence law. Louise also serves as a member of the Law Society of Scotland Insurance Committee and sits on the Committee for the Boroughmuir High School Former Pupils’ Association.

Jamila Archibald

Jamila (LLB ’17 & PGD ’18)  is a Senior Legal Counsel at the Trip.com Group, assisting in a broad range of legal matters across the group for the EMEA region, including commercial contracts, employment, data protection, consumer protection law, competition law, intellectual property, dispute resolution, and corporate governance. After completing her undergraduate and Diploma at Edinburgh law school in 2018, Jamila maintains strong links to the university, currently sitting on the Advancement Advisory Board at the University of Edinburgh law school, as well as tutoring Business Entities. She is extremely passionate about diversity & inclusion. She has been actively involved in D&I initiatives throughout her career, including acting as a committee member for SEMLA, taking up a leadership role as Co-Lead for the BAME Belonging Group at SSE plc and being an active member of the Race, Faith and Belonging Group during her employment at Shepherd and Wedderburn.

Cameron Ramage

Cameron is a Senior Legal Counsel at international semiconductor company Cirrus Logic. He advises on a wide range of legal matters, primarily across the UK and Asia-Pacific region, including commercial contracts, intellectual property and software licensing, data protection, UK ESG, employment, and artificial intelligence. Cameron completed his undergraduate LLB and Diploma in Professional Legal Practice at the University of Strathclyde. He has been consistently involved in volunteering efforts throughout his career, including with Law Works during his time at Shepherd and Wedderburn, and he currently serves as a supervising solicitor at the University of Edinburgh Free Legal Advice Centre. Cameron won the Law Society of Scotland 2024 In-house Rising Star Award.
