Join The Hon Lady Ross KC for a talk about her career, the role of the Judiciary and the type of work Senators of the College of Justice undertake.

Lady Ross graduated from the University of Oxford (BA (Hons)), where she studied philosophy, politics and economics.  She then studied at the University of Edinburgh, completing the accelerated LLB course in 1996 and then the Diploma in Legal Practice in 1997. She qualified as a solicitor in 1999 and was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in 2003.  When she was a trainee solicitor and also when devilling she was a part-time tutor in constitutional law at the University of Edinburgh.

As an advocate, she practised in civil work, predominantly in public law, and often in matters with EU law dimensions.  She served as a standing junior to the Scottish Ministers between 2008 and 2016 and, over the course of her career in practice, acted for a wide range of other public bodies, as well as petitioners.  Her practice also encompassed commercial law and trust law.  She was appointed as Queen’s Counsel in 2016. She served for four years, ending in January 2023, as the advocate member of the Judicial Appointments Board for Scotland.

If you are interested in, or want to find out more about, a career in the Judiciary this is a unique opportunity to hear from one of the highest sitting judges in Scotland. Lady Ross’s talk will be followed by a Q&A, giving you the chance to find out more.
