I have been teaching in the Edinburgh Law School for over ten years. My areas of teaching include European Union law at Ordinary and Masters level, and Mental Health Law Honours. View my publicationsDr Ruiqiao Zhang has comprehensive education backgrounds, extensive academic training in law, and rich experience of research and practice across multiple jurisdictions in Asia, Europe and North America.
She holds two bachelor’s degrees of Law and Science, three master’s degrees of Civil and Commercial Law, International Commercial and Trade Law, and Comparative Law in China, the Netherlands, and Canada respectively, and one doctoral degree of law at McGill University, supervised by Professor Lionel Smith.
Dr Ruiqiao Zhang is admitted to practice law in England & Wales and China. She has been a regular consultant (as a member or an advisor) for several organisations, including China-Britain Business Council and Cross Party Group on China of the Scottish Parliament.
Dr Ruiqiao Zhang has published monographs and articles with leading publishers (including Hart and Oxford University Press) and in prominent peer-reviewed journals spanning comparative law, general jurisprudence and specialised legal fields.
In 2019, Dr Ruiqiao Zhang held the position of Visiting Professor at Peking University Law School.

View my publicationsDavid Cabrelli joined the School of Law in June 2007 having lectured at the University of Dundee for four years. Prior to being appointed a lecturer, David practised commercial law and corporate law for six years. David's teaching and research interests lie in the fields of labour law/employment law, company law, commercial law and private law. He has published papers in numerous academic and practitioner journals in the field of labour/employment law, corporate law, commercial law and private law, together with a book on the Scots law of commercial agreements and student textbooks on employment law (now in its fourth edition) and Scots commercial law.
One of David’s employment law articles was cited with approval by Lords Hope, Wilson and Sumption in the UK Supreme Court in Société Générale (London Branch) v Geys [2012] UKSC 63; [2013] 1 AC 523 and various other articles published by David have been cited by the Federal Court of Australia, The Supreme Court of South Australia, the Hong Kong High Court, the Law Commission of England and Wales and the Scottish Law Commission.

View my publicationsDr Leandro Mancano is Senior Lecturer in EU Law at Edinburgh Law School, former Head of EU Law Subject Area and former Programme Director of the LLM in European Law.
Leandro’s main research interests lie in EU constitutional Law, EU fundamental rights Law, the law and policy of the EU Area of Freedom Security and Justice. He teaches and is course organizer of courses in EU Law, EU Criminal Law, EU Asylum and Immigration Law.
Leandro’s publications focus on the interaction amongst different areas of European law and policy, such as crime, migration, and human rights. His first monograph analyses the legislative and judicial approach of the EU to deprivation of liberty in the fields of substantive and procedural criminal law, immigration, citizenship and free movement.
Before joining the University of Edinburgh, Leandro received his PhD from Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna (Pisa). He has been visiting researcher at Queen Mary University of London, Université Libre de Bruxelles and the University of Copenhagen. Leandro is UK’s Deputy Contact Point for the European Criminal Law Academic Network (ECLAN).
