LLM in European and Transnational Law
The LLM in European and Transnational Law provides an unrivalled opportunity to study the interaction between legal systems across borders.
A major pillar of the programme is the law of the European Union (EU), the best-known example of regional legal integration in the world. The programme covers substantive areas of EU law, ranging from asylum to competition, as well as legal relations with the wider European neighbourhood, including accession states, the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), and the United Kingdom (UK).
The programme further enables students to explore transnational legal phenomena beyond the EU, notably in other contexts of regional integration and in the field of private international law, through topics ranging from citizenship and migration to supply chains and sustainable development.
Students wishing to specialise exclusively in EU law can choose to graduate with an LLM in European Law.

The LLM in European and Transnational Law also draws on our substantial expertise in private international law and legal integration in Latin America and the Caribbean. By combining EU law with these other areas of law ‘beyond the state’, the LLM offers a unique programme of study for the internationally minded and intellectually curious lawyers of the future.
In addition to the core curriculum, the programme offers students the chance to engage with major public institutions within and beyond the Scottish capital, with previous cohort visits including the Scottish Parliament and the UK Supreme Court.
Students also have the chance to participate in the European Law Moot Court, one of the most prestigious mooting competitions in the world.
