For the third year running, Edinburgh Law School successfully delivered School Tasking, an innovative outreach initiative designed to engage young people with the law through dynamic, interactive challenges inspired by the Channel 4 game show Taskmaster.

This year’s Scottish Regional Final took place on Friday, 9 May 2025, hosted by leading law firm Addleshaw Goddard LLP at their Edinburgh office. The final was led by Lindsay Jack, Head of Diversity, Careers and Outreach at the Law Society of Scotland, and brought together Primary 6 pupils from schools in Dundee and Edinburgh for a day of creative legal challenges.

In the closest competition to date, Da Nuggets from Pirniehall Primary School emerged victorious, earning the title of Scottish School Tasking Champions 2025. The team impressed judges with their ingenuity, teamwork, and enthusiasm throughout the day’s events.

“It’s always a joy to see how imaginative and engaged the pupils are. They bring such energy to learning about the law in new and exciting ways,” said a member of the judging panel, which included staff from both Edinburgh Law School and Addleshaw Goddard LLP.

The final event was the culmination of four in-school workshops at participating primary schools across Edinburgh and Dundee, delivered by undergraduate law students from Edinburgh Law School and Dundee University. These sessions introduced pupils to key legal concepts through tasks ranging from Play-Doh models of human rights to courtroom role-play and legal-themed wordsearches.

The programme not only introduces young learners to the legal system but also helps normalise conversations about higher education and legal careers at an early age. For university students, the experience provides an opportunity to build communication, leadership, and teaching skills, boosting their employability in the legal sector and beyond.

The programme was originally created by Dr Ali Struthers at the University of Warwick’s Law School. Edinburgh Law School has proudly supported the initiative since its inception thanks to Lindsay Jack, who brought the initiative to Edinburgh in 2022 and led the project in previous years.

A special thanks goes to all those who made this year’s School Tasking project possible, particularly Lindsay Jack for hosting and the dedicated team at Addleshaw Goddard LLP for their generous support and hospitality.
