Empowering Students Through Alumni and Partner Support
Wed 23 July 2025
Thanks to the generosity of alumni and the commitment of external partners, Edinburgh Law School students have been able to take meaningful steps toward achieving their future goals.
This year, funding enabled students to secure traineeships, an essential for up-and-coming solicitors, attend prestigious summer schools to broaden their academic horizons, and take on internships with global organisations. These real-world experiences help students bridge the gap between their academic learning and career aspirations.
...generous support of donors made participation in the Leiden-Edinburgh Global Law Summer School possible. The experience has greatly contributed to my career development and inspired me to continue in this field.
Support from Alumni
We are indebted to alumni, whose donations and legacies continue to open doors for students at all stages of their legal education. Scholarships funded by alumni have been instrumental in helping students pursue their goals.
Named scholarships such as the Jack and Jean Wasserson Industry Support Scholarships, the Gill Hollis Tercentenary Awards, the Gilchrist Career Development Scholarships, and the Ewen Cameron Summer and Travel Scholarships are vital in supporting all students from undergraduate to PhD level.
I hope my support makes it possible for somebody to attend university, whom without a scholarship wouldn't be able to, or would struggle financially or have a miserable time.
Support via the Career Opportunities Programme
Our relationships with external partners continue to bring wide-ranging benefits to life at the School, and scholarships are no exception.
Through the Career Opportunities Programme, law firms and employers can engage directly with students in ways aligned with their strategic interests. This collaboration not only enhances employer visibility on campus but has also raised vital funds to support student development.
Thanks to this support students have participated in mooting competitions across the UK and Europe. Others have been able to accept internships with the United Nations in Asia, and aspiring advocates gained hands-on experience through the Faculty of Advocates’ Mini-devilling Scheme, shadowing a Member of Faculty.

Now in its third year, the Career Development Scholarship programme has supported more than 100 students, enabling access to transformative experiences that would otherwise be out of reach. With application numbers growing each year, we are incredibly thankful to all benefactors for helping us offer these life-changing opportunities.
