Edinburgh LLM student wins AIIP best student paper award

The competition is sponsored by the RCUK CREATE Research Centre for Copyright in the Creative Economy and Trademark Now. This year's essay theme was, “How will Artificial Intelligence change the practice of Intellectual Property law?”.
Erica's paper, based on her LLM dissertation supervised by Edinburgh Law School's Prof Burkhard Schafer, on “Computers as Inventors – Legal and Policy Implications of Artificial Intelligence on Patent Law”, was praised by the Awards Committee for its “boldness of vision, originality and depth of research”.
Her paper can be found in the latest edition of the Law School’s peer reviewed and student led online Journal SCRIPTed, together with the essays of the other prizewinners.

On winning the award Erica said;
"I was delighted to learn that my essay had received the best student paper award in the AIIP competition. I am very grateful to my supervisor, Professor Schafer, for his support and our conversations on the subject matter.
In terms of plans for the future, I look forward to applying what I learned through the LLM programme in my career in policy with the Government of Canada."
