Edinburgh Law School welcomes renowned legal scholar Professor Fleur Johns

On 18 November, the University of Edinburgh's Law School welcomed Professor Fleur Johns, a distinguished professor of Law and Justice from the University of New South Wales, as its second Dean's Fellow. A leading expert in international law, legal theory, and technology, Professor Johns brought cutting-edge insights to the school during her weeklong visit.

During her week at Edinburgh Law School Professor Johns met with staff and students, discussed her research, and delivered two lectures: her Dean’s Fellow lecture titled ‘(International) Legal Critique Now’ and the SCRIPT Centre’s Annual Lecture titled ‘On Tech Diplomacy & Dilemmas of human-nonhuman interface’.

Professor Johns also recorded a podcast episode with Dr Gail Lythgoe and Dr Gavin Sullivan. During the podcast they discuss her previous work as well as her latest book ‘#Help: Digital Humanitarianism and the Ranking of International Order’ which presents a ground-breaking study of digital humanitarianism and its ramifications for international law and politics.

The Dean’s Fellowship welcomes world-renowned legal scholars from across the globe. During their time at the Law School, Dean's Fellows will engage in various events and discussions of their research with our academic and student community, and deliver a Dean’s Lecture which is open to the university community and the general public.
