Dr Milena Tripkovic publishes a new article in the British Journal of Criminology
Fri 26 February 2021
Dr Milena Tripkovic, Lecturer in Criminology at Edinburgh Law School, has authored a new article 'Transcending the Boundaries of Punishment: On the Nature of Citizenship Deprivation' for the British Journal of Criminology, Oxford Academic.
The article examines the rising use of citizenship revocation to respond to criminal and other harmful conduct in European countries and assesses the extent to which such sanctions might be considered punishment. The article proposes that current denationalisation policies divert significantly from the fundamental principles of punishment and serve instead to reaffirm the normative boundaries of the political community, which has important implications for our attempts to understand and justify them.
The article was released on 23 February 2021 as part of 'The British Journal of Criminology: An International Review of Crime and Society' - one of the world's top criminology journals. It publishes work of the highest quality from around the world and across all areas of criminology.
