This two-day conference jointly organised by the Centre for Legal History, the School of Law, the University of Edinburgh, and the Istituto Italo-Cinese, Zhongnan University of Economics and Law, focuses on the property-law provisions in the new Chinese Civil Code. The Code, enacted in 2020, is rooted both structurally and in terms of content in the civilian tradition, with extensive influence from Roman law via Swiss, German, and Japanese law. The aim of this conference is to bring together scholars from different jurisdictions rooted in the civilian tradition to discuss the shape and contours of the property-law provisions in the Code.
