Who is your ally and why?

Reveal your ally and share experiences to help the profession face future challenges.

In collaboration with the Law Society of Scotland and the Edinburgh Foundation for Women in Law, Diversity+ brings you this event.

It is designed for us to embrace and reveal the allies in our lives that support us, personally or professionally. Those keys individual we turn to for guidance, sense checks and support when we feel vulnerable and unsure or when we are looking to advance our careers.

You will hear from a diverse range of speakers, and their allies about a range of topics, including:

1. Why allyship is important

2. The benefits of allyship

3. The pitfalls of allyship

4. How to overcome intersectional and intergenerational barriers with allyship

5. How best to adopt allyship into your career development.

6. The future of allyship

Speakers

Dr Naeema Yaqoob Sajid: former partner at Drummond Miller and Aberdein Considine, co-founder of the Scottish Ethnic Minorities Lawyers Association and Director of Diversity+

Greig Honeyman: consultant, and formerly partner at Shepherd and Wedderburn

James Wolffe KC: former Dean of the Faculty of Advocates and Lord Advocate

Sarah Wolffe: former Senator of the College of Justice and currently professor at the University of Strathclyde

Lindsay Jack: Head of Diversity, Careers, and Outreach at The Law Society of Scotland

Attendees are encouraged to bring ‘their plus one’ to this event and share first-hand how the power of allyship helps them reach their career goals.

Your ally may be a colleague, a friend, a family member, a mentor. They may be from a different profession, career stage, age, gender, ethnicity. The idea is for us to embrace these differences in accepting that everyone has a contribution to make if we wish to see action to help move the dial for equality.

Please note: When booking a space, please book one ticket if you’re coming by yourself, or two tickets if you’re bring your ally.
