About the firm
Turcan Connell is the largest private client firm in Scotland and one of the largest in the UK, with offices based in Edinburgh, Glasgow and London. Turcan Connell focus exclusively on providing legal and tax advice to private individuals, servicing the personal and commercial needs of individuals as Landowners, Farmers, Business owners, Entrepreneurs, Philanthropists and Trustees.
Traineeships
Turcan Connell's traineeships are structured over two years and cover four six-month seats in various areas of the firm. All trainees spend time in the largest departments – Tax and Succession and Land and Property as well as time in other departments: Charities, Employment and Dispute Resolution, Divorce and Family and Family and Private Businesses. Training is mostly based in Turcan Connell's Edinburgh office with some opportunities to work in Glasgow.
Trainees at Turcan Connell benefit from a structured mentoring programme and each have their own mentor assigned to them. They are expected to take a high degree of personal responsibility for their career from the start. On-the-job training is complemented by regular internal seminars, continuing professional development and Partner-led quarterly reviews. It is a continuous two-way process with regular feedback and communication.
Vacation scheme
Turcan Connell offers a select number of summer internships to students who have an interest in Turcan Connell's fields of expertise. Internships are normally aimed at third year honours students or those studying the accelerated LLB at a Scottish university.
The internships provide real, hands-on work experience with a chance to develop skills in a fast-paced and friendly environment. The six-week programme normally runs between late June and early August. Following a firm-wide induction, interns are assigned work in specific departments.
Internships are an increasingly important part of Turcan Connell's recruitment strategy and many interns go on to become trainees with the firm. Each intern is individually mentored and all are guaranteed an interview if they decide to apply for a traineeship.
Insight Nights
Turcan Connell hosts an Edinburgh student insights evening in November each year. This gives individuals the opportunity to meet with their experienced trainees and find out more about life at our firm. Look out for further details from the end of September.

Applications for Turcan Connell's 2025 six-week Summer Internship programme are now open on the Turcan Connell website and close on the 9 January. Successful candidates are invited to attend an interview with Turcan Connell in their Edinburgh office at the end of January/early February.
The internship itself runs from the end of June until the start of August each year.
Traineeships are recruited for two years in advance. Applications open on the Turcan Connell website in August each year and close end of September/early October. Turcan Connell encourage and accept applications from those outside of their internship programme.
Successful candidates are invited to attend the Traineeship Recruitment Day in Turcan Connell's Edinburgh office in early/mid-October.
