James Drummond Young was a judge of the Court of Session until 2020, latterly in the Inner House and previously in the Commercial Court. He was Chairman of the Scottish Law Commission from 2007 to 2011, and has maintained links with the Commission since then, in relation both to current projects and the implementation of previous Reports. While Chairman of the Commission, he became the lead Commissioner in the Trusts project, which culminated in the Commission’s Report on Trust Law (Scot Law Com No 239, 2014), and he continues to be actively involved in promoting the implementation of that Report.
