Dr Jo Brown is an honorary fellow at the School of Law, University of Edinburgh and consultant forensic psychiatrist and Clinical Director at the Orchard Clinic Medium Secure Inpatient Unit, Royal Edinburgh Hospital where she is the lead Consultant for the Women’s Service.
She completed her medical degree at the University of Newcastle with her intercalated degree an MA in History of Medicine with her dissertation on the use of prisoners as experimental subjects in the USA. Since starting her clinical training, she has gone on to complete a BA with the Open University in Criminology and Psychology. She is a qualified Cognitive-Analytic Therapist.
In her role as Chair (2021-2025) for the Forensic Faculty of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in Scotland, she was part of the responses to recent Scottish Government reviews including the Scott Review of Mental Health Law and the Barron Review of Forensic Mental Health Services in Scotland.
