Speaking through time with Dr Martin David Kelly
Thu 13 January 2022
Martin discusses his career trajectory and research interests with Legal-Phi as part of their conversations with legal and moral philosophers.
Since completing a PhD in Law at the University of Edinburgh, Dr Martin David Kelly has joined Edinburgh Law School as a Lecturer in Legal Theory. In this conversation with the Legal-Phi blog, he discusses his career trajectory and what brought him to legal philosophy, as well as his current research that focuses on the relationship between law and language. Martin explains why it is important to recognise that laws are ‘always speaking’ and he shows how this insight solves the problem of ‘originalism’ in legal interpretation.
