Sharon Cowan makes the Pink Scotland List

Mon 17 February 2014

Dr Sharon Cowan, Senior Lecturer in Criminal Law and Medical Jurisprudence, was listed in 'The Pink Scotland List: Pride of the Nation' in this week's Scotland on Sunday. Sharon was the only academic to make the list, joining other notable names fighting for equality based on gender and sexuality, including Tim Hopkins, Ruth Davidson, Patrick Harvie, Derek Ogg QC, Carol Ann Duffy, and Alan Cumming.

The list was published to mark the landmark victory of equal marriage rights and celebrates 50 LGBT Scots who are working to make a difference in the cultural, political and public life of those living in Scotland and around the world.

Sharon made the list for her research on gender and sexuality, particularly in criminal law and asylum studies. She has been invited to speak about her work in Canada and Australia, and is now investigating the impact of law on transgender people in Scotland, Canada and the US.

The full list can be found on The Scotsman online.
