Mon 9 December 2024

Aline F. Fachinetti, an LLM graduate (2022) has recently published a new book in Brazil titled “Inteligência Artificial Responsável: programa de governança e melhores práticas organizacionais” (Responsible AI: governance and organisational best practices). The book explores the need for a framework to ensure responsible and ethical AI governance.
Responsible AI is the approach to developing, assessing and deploying AI systems that are trustworthy, beneficial to society, and aligned with human values and rights.
The book brings together contributions from leading Brazilian experts to create a unique and strategic project, which aims to foster impactful discussions and set new standards for the future of technology. It is deeply rooted in Aline’s time at Edinburgh Law School with the preface being written by Professor Burkhard Schafer who was Aline’s research supervisor during her time in Edinburgh.
Aline said: “This book is a reflection of my passion for responsible innovation - a call to action for creating AI systems that genuinely serve society. It is inspired by the discussions I had during my time at Edinburgh Law School and shaped by the invaluable mentorship of Professor Burkhard Schafer. By bringing together the insights of brilliant Brazilian minds, I sought to craft a resource that not only informs but also empowers organisations to adopt AI with integrity and foresight. My hope is that this work sparks change and inspires others to see the responsible use of AI as not merely a necessity but an opportunity to shape a better future.”
Aline is the Regional Data Protection Manager at Edenred and the co-founder of Juventude Privada, an NGO focused on raising awareness of privacy, data protection, digital ethics and online security among young people.
Aline was also one of the organisers of the BR-UK AI Governance Summit in São Paulo earlier in 2024, a landmark event fostering dialogue between Brazilian and British experts on responsible AI. Professor Burkhard Schafer delivered a compelling keynote speech on ethics and AI, highlighting the critical role of ethical principles in shaping trustworthy and equitable AI systems.
