Professor Veronica Ruiz Abou-Nigm co-hosts conference on Sustainable Global Value Chains and Private International Law

As part of the LSGL Sustainable Global Value Chains project, Professor Veronica Ruiz Abou-Nigm, Edinburgh Law School co-hosted the Conference on Sustainable Global Value Chains with Michael Nietsch from EBS Law School on 17 October 2025 at EBS Law School, Oestrich-Winkel, Germany.
This international gathering brought together scholars from various jurisdictions to explore the role of private law and private international law in advancing social, economic and environmental sustainability within global value chains. Scholars included Ralf Michaels (Max Planck Institute for Comparative and International Private Law), Ren Yatsunami (Kyushu University), Carlos Vázquez (Georgetown Law), Felix M. Wilke (EBS Law School), Sara Sánchez Fernández (IE Law School), Irene-marie Esser (University of Glasgow), Christopher Riley (University of Durham), Simone Lamont-Black (University of Edinburgh Law School), Dr Catherine Pédamon (Westminster Law School - University of Westminster), Nevena Jevremovic (University of Aberdeen), Matthias Goldmann (EBS Law School), Klaas Hendrik Eller (University of Amsterdam) and Ekaterina Pannebakker (Leiden University).
Professor Ruiz Abou-Nigm said: “Thanks to our brilliant speakers and engaged participants this was an excellent opportunity to reflect on the trajectory of global value chains, take stock of most recent regulatory developments and promote forward-thinking that focuses on global inequalities, sustainability and the protection of the most vulnerable.”
