Professor John W. Cairns to deliver Eason Weinmann Lecture

Mon 12 May 2025

John Cairns

Edinburgh Law School’s Professor John W. Cairns has been invited to deliver this year’s Eason Weinmann Lecture at Tulane Law School in Louisiana.

The annual lecture will be part of Tulane Law School’s wider Bicentennial (Book) Conference Celebrating the 1825 Louisiana Civil Code, which will take place between 20 – 21 November 2025.

Professor Cairns’ lecture will focus on a reconsideration of the 1825 Civil Code in historical perspective.

The Eason Weinmann Lecture is one of the Tulane Law School’s oldest and most significant lectures. It is funded by the Eason Weinmann Center for International and Comparative Law, established in 1981 through the generosity of Virginia Eason Weinmann and John Giffen Weinmann, a distinguished Tulane Law School graduate.

Professor Cairns comments: “It is a great honour to be invited to give this lecture. Louisiana has a fascinating and complex legal history as a French and then Spanish colony before its acquisition by the United States. Its code of 1825 exerted wide influence around the world.”
