Emeritus Professor of International Criminal Law presented with the Medal by the Director General for Human Rights and the Rule of Law
Edinburgh Law School's Emeritus Professor of International Criminal Law, Bill Gilmore, has been awarded the Medal of Honour by the Council of Europe.
The medal was presented on behalf of the Secretary General at a Plenary Meeting of the Council of Europe's Moneyval Committee by the Director General for Human Rights and the Rule of Law.

Professor Gilmore had acted as Legal Advisor to the Moneyval Committee, which deals with money laundering and terrorist laundering, for exactly 20 years. Professor Gilmore commented that "it was a nice surprise. It was only possible because of the flexibility shown by the University of Edinburgh and successive Deans of Law which enabled me to take forward work on this topic."
Professor Gilmore stood down from this position in December but still assists the Council of Europe on an ad hoc basis.
Congratulations on this well deserved honour!
