Professor Anne-Maree Farrell appointed to the UK Government Home Office Biometrics and Forensics Ethics Group

Following an open competition, Professor Anne-Maree Farrell has been appointed for a three-year term to the UK Government Home Office Biometrics and Forensics Ethics Group (BFEG).
The Biometrics and Forensics Ethics Group is an advisory non-departmental public body sponsored by the Home Office. It provides independent ethical advice to Home Office ministers on issues related to the collection, use, and retention of biometric and forensic material. The BFEG also advises on ethical issues in the use of large and complex data sets and projects using explainable data-driven technology. Relevant projects from the Home Office Biometrics programme include the provision of advice on data protection impact assessments, the use of large datasets within the Home Office, and the implementation of systems using machine learning and artificial intelligence.
