Opportunity for Honors students to attend Summer School at the University of Pretoria

Every year the Law School sponsors a student to participate of the Summer School Programme organised by the Law School Global League. This is a fantastic opportunity to broaden your horizons both academically and professionally. You will have the opportunity to explore the Law in context and to learn from academics from all over the world.

Honours students are invited to submit applications to participate in the LSGL summer school. This year the summer school takes place in Pretoria, South Africa! 

Week 1 (30 June-4 July)

  • The New Asylum Seekers: Forced Migration and State Responses to Asylum Seeker (9-12)
  • The Right to Education – Past, Present, and Future: Legal and Policy Perspectives in South Africa (14-17)

Week 2 (7-11 July)

  • Comparative Analysis of Global Lawyering Through Popular Culture (9-12)
  • A Reality Check: Comparative Analysis of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals 2030 and the African Union Agenda 2063 - Law as a Case in Point (14-17)

Funding: There is one scholarship available to attend the summer school; the scholarship will fully fund one student on a merit basis, including coverage of travel expenses and daily bursary, according to the University’s policy. If selected, the student will be required to apply for the University of Edinburgh business travel insurance. The insurance has no direct cost. 

Assessment: A pass for each course will be necessary to acquire the final certificate. Deadlines and format will be agreed with the Convenor of each course. 

Application process and deadlines

  1. For nomination by the Law School: Students interested in being nominated by Edinburgh Law School must submit their applications, consisting of a curriculum vitae and a statement of motivation, to the Director of Internationalisation (leandro.mancano@ed.ac.uk), and copy into the email the Director of External Relations (jonathan.hardman@ed.ac.uk) and the Director of Undergraduate Studies (amy.lawton@ed.ac.uk) by 5pm, Friday 18 April 2025. The applications will be considered on the basis of the academic performance and motivation of each applicant.

    Notification by 21 April 2025: The Director of Internationalisation will notify the successful candidate

  2. Application to Summer School by 25 April 2025: The selected student must complete the LSGL Summer School student application form, accessible through the brochure (see hyperlink above) and include:
    1. An official transcript (in English, PDF)
    2. Curriculum Vitae
    3. One headshot to be used for student ID and Summer School student list
