The AI4People Institute recently released its report on how to design, develop and maintain responsible and just Artificial Intelligence systems that respect the fundamental rights, ethical principles, and values of the European Union.

Professor Burkhard Schafer presented the findings as a member of the AI4People working group on ethics by design to a meeting attended by 200 EU lawmakers, representatives from industry and civil society, and regulatory bodies.

The principles were co-developed by an international group of academics and industry representatives from Fujitsu, Deloitte and Airbus. Their aim is to offer concrete help to companies in the AI sector in turning “high level” ethical and legal requirements into concrete design decisions and help foster a culture of responsible AI research in Europe.

Founded in 2018 the AI4People Institute brings together academia, global businesses, civil society organisations and governments to consider the risks of AI and advocate for responsible and beneficial AI development and deployment.

The Institute focuses on various aspects related to AI, including ethics, policy, governance, privacy, inclusivity, and the responsible use of AI across different domains.
