New playbook for a proportional approach to ethical AI requirements presented at AI4People 2025 Summit
Fri 20 February 2026
As Chair of the AI4People working group, Professor Burkhard Schafer contributed to the publication of ‘AI4 People Playbook: Implementing a Proportional Approach to Ethical AI Requirements’.
Initially launched at the AI4People Summit in December 2025, the publication expands upon the overarching ideas that were shared during the AI4People’s initial six workshops. The publication provides guidance on how ethical AI obligations can be applied.
The summit, organised by the AI4People Institute with Atomium – the European Institute for Science and Democracy, brought together policymakers, researchers, industry and civil society to focus on the practicalities of AI governance. It built on the Paris AI Action Summit to bring together policymakers, researchers, industry and civil society to turn ethical AI principles into practical governance.
The summit featured contributions from also Kristian Vigenin (Member of the European Parliament), Virginia Dignum (Professor of Computer Science at Umea University), Kilian Gross (Director, AI Office and Director-designate for Enabling and Emerging Technologies), Dame Wendy Hall (Professor of Computer Science at the University of Southampton), Serban Georgescu (CEO Fujitsu Research of Europe) and Michelangelo Baracchi (President, AI4People Institute), each bringing a unique perspective on where AI governance stands and where it must go next.
