New patrons for Edinburgh Law School advancement
Tue 7 December 2021

Leading national and international judges, all alumni of Edinburgh Law School, named as Patrons to the Edinburgh Law School Advancement Committee.
Edinburgh Law School is launching a new approach to partnership with its alumni and leading external partners to deepen engagement, collaboration and maximise the impact of its research, teaching and legal training. The new plans are spearheaded by a newly established Advancement Committee co-chaired by Professor Nehal Bhuta and Dr Jonathan Hardman.
To support these new endeavours, Edinburgh Law School is pleased to announced four new Patrons to the Advancement Committee, including:
- The Right Hon The Lord Reed of Allermuir, President of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom (LLB, 1978)
- The Right Hon Lord Hodge, Deputy President of the Supreme Court of United Kingdom (LLB, 1980)
- Judge Julia Sebutinde, Judge of the International Court of Justice, The World Court (LLM, 1990; Hon LLD, 2009)
- Professor Sarah Wolffe, The Hon Lady Wolffe (LLB, 1989)
As leading alumni of Edinburgh Law School, the Patrons will provide advice and guidance to the School’s Advancement Committee to sustain and grow Edinburgh Law School’s position as a world-leading law school. Also joining the Advancement Committee as the external alumni chair is Jacquelyn MacLennan, Partner at White & Case (LLB, 1983).
“The appointment of such outstanding alumni to support our Advancement Committee is extraordinary evidence of how our graduates are reaching the highest levels of standing nationally and internationally,” says Prof Bhuta, Director of Alumni Relations and Professor of Public International Law. “Through our new strategy we are looking forward to reconnecting with many more of our highly accomplished and world-leading graduates at all stages of their career.”
Dr Hardman, Director of CPD and Consultancy and Lecturer in International Commercial Law, further commented: “This is an exciting time for Edinburgh Law School as it seeks to improve its proximity to external stakeholders, both alumni and not. If you have any interest in further engaging with Edinburgh Law School then we would love to hear from you.”
The new Edinburgh Law School Advancement Strategy will be officially launched at a virtual Global Launch on Tuesday, 8 February 2022.
