Mon 27 October 2025

Book cover for The Law of EU Border Controls

A new scholarly work by Dr Leandro Mancano entitled 'The Law of EU Border Controls: Constitutional Compliance' has been released online via Oxford University Press and will become available in physical print from 18 November 2025.

The book explores the complexity of EU border controls, which operate across multiple levels of governance and are shaped by a range of legal sources and policy goals. Dr Mancano assesses how this legal and institutional diversity affects the EU’s constitutional order, and what conditions must be met for the Union to function as an area without internal borders.

By examining both internal and external border controls, as well as the laws and practices of specific member states, the book offers a detailed analysis of how the EU manages border-related challenges. It also considers the broader constitutional implications of European integration on national sovereignty.

This new publication is a significant contribution to the fields of constitutional, migration and asylum law.
