Naeema Yaqoob Sajid

Edinburgh Law School alumna, Naeema Yaqoob Sajid (LLB, 1999), was awarded her Honorary Degree of Doctor of Laws at Edinburgh Law School’s graduation ceremony on 22 November 2024 for her championing of equality in the legal sector. Naeema’s laureation address was given by Professor Lesley McAra.

Since graduating Naeema has made an outstanding contribution to the legal profession and the Law School through her pioneering work on diversity, equity and inclusion. She co-founded the Scottish Ethnic Minorities Lawyers Association (SEMLA), which aims to support and create career opportunities for ethnic minority lawyers and law students in Scotland.

After specialising in child and family law and becoming a partner at Drummond Miller LLP and Aberdein Considine, Naeema left legal practice to launch her own consultancy, Diversity+. Diversity+ supports businesses, both in the legal profession and beyond, in placing diversity, equity, and inclusion at the heart of their endeavours.

In 2021, Naeema won the Women in Law prize at the Women’s Business Awards, which acknowledged the major impact that she and her business have had on the legal profession in Scotland.

Naeema is also a great supporter of Edinburgh Law School’s Edinburgh Foundation for Women in Law, which was founded 10 years ago and aims to advance gender equality and empower women in the legal profession.
