The Edinburgh team who attended the comparative law in action moot

We’re celebrating more mooting achievements by Edinburgh Law School students. Teams from Edinburgh recently competed at the 30th Vis Moot on International Arbitration and at the Comparative Law in Action Moot.

30th Vis Moot on International Arbitration

Killian Dockrell, Shuhao Ren, Ashley Omondi and Chi Wai Hu represented Edinburgh at the competition in Vienna. The competition aims to foster the study of international commercial law and arbitration and provide students with the experience of resolving international business disputes.

Edinburgh ranked first for the Martin Domke Award (Best Individual Oralist) and Diploma student Killian Dockrell was awarded the top oralist. Overall, it was amazing achievement for the team to rank in the top 25 out of around 400 competing law schools from around the world.

This is the first year that the team has featured both undergraduate and postgraduate students. The coaching team was led by Andreas Cooke with help from PhD students Ke Mu and Carla Fisher, and LLM student Viren Kalera.

Dr Ana Maria Daza Vargas said: “It is an amazing achievement for the students and coaches, all of which put a huge amount of work on top of their course work. All of them are good and driven students. The team has made the Law School immensely proud and has put the University of Edinburgh's name in the radar of international commercial arbitration moot competitions.”

Comparative Law in Action Moot

The Comparative Law in Action Moot, created by IE Law School in Madrid, challenges students to work on an interactive multimedia case in a largely virtual environment.

In the third edition of the competition students were faced with the scenario where they had to consider the corporate social responsibility of a multinational technology company.

Four Edinburgh students, Anna Mysyshyn, Christina Herrera García, Amelia Retter and Marcel Mir Teijeiro, headed to Madrid to compete in the competition. The team was coached by Burkhard Schafer with the help of Nicolas Jondet

The Edinburgh team made it to the semi-final of the competition, an incredible achievement for the team.

An event was recently held at the Law School to celebrate the achievements and work of all of the students involved with mooting competitions this year.
