Edinburgh Law School is pleased to announce the launch of the Edinburgh Competition Law and Economics Network (ECLEN), a collaboration between Edinburgh Law School and the School of Economics.

ECLEN will serve as a hub for researchers with interests in competition and markets from across the two Schools, as well as the University more broadly. ECLEN will also provide a focal point for interaction with external competition lawyers and economists in Edinburgh and beyond.

The network is coordinated by Dr Andrew McLean, Lecturer in Law & Political Economy at Edinburgh Law School, in cooperation with Professor Fiona Scott Morton, Professor of Economics at Yale School of Management and Visiting Professor at Edinburgh University’s School of Economics.

Commenting on the creation of ECLEN, Dr McLean and Professor Scott Morton remarked “ECLEN combines two traditional strengths of Edinburgh University, Economics and Law, in the study of competition policy. This new partnership between the School of Law and School of Economics comes at an opportune moment, with growing interest in competition issues, including the regulation of large digital platforms, and the intersection of competition with inequality, labour and sustainability. In these areas and more, ECLEN will help to leverage the combined strength of the two schools. We hope that ECLEN will provide Edinburgh University staff and students, as well as practitioners and regulators in the city, with opportunities to work together and develop Edinburgh’s competition community. Lastly, we would like to thank the leadership of both schools for their support in establishing this new venture.”
