Senior Lecturer in Child and Family Law, Katy Macfarlane, has authored the ninth edition of Thomson's Family Law in Scotland. The book is a respected and accessible guide to Scots child and family law and is widely valued for its clarity and wide range of topics covered.

The ninth edition addresses issues such as adult relationships, the rights and capacity of children, parental responsibilities and parental rights, contact and residence disputes, adoption and permanence, and the Children's Hearing System. This is a valuable resource for students, legal practitioners and professionals working in this complex area of law.

Katy is a qualified solicitor, safeguarder for the children's hearings system, child welfare reporter in family actions in Edinburgh Sheriff Court and experienced mediator. She has served on the Board of Trustees of the Scottish Child Law Centre and the Scottish Alliance for Children’s Rights (Together). She is also a member of the Scottish Government's cross party group on Children and Young People.
