International Seminar hosted by Dr Veronica Ruiz Abou-Nigm and MiLA partners at QMUL and UNAM

On Wednesday 5 May 2021, an International Seminar on Inclusion and Integration of Migrants in Latin America was hosted by MiLA (University of Edinburgh, UNAM and Queen Mary University of London) in collaboration with Instituto de Investigaciones Jurídicas and SUDIMER UNAM.

Migration in Latin America (MiLA) is a transdisciplinary research network aiming to strengthen the network of academics working on migration in Latin America and foster an international network of researchers in the field. Currently MiLA’s research is focused on exploring contexts of integration and inclusion of migrants in Argentina, Colombia and Mexico with a view to generate further studies on integration an inclusion in the region.

The event was a great success. Hosted by Veronica Ruiz Abou-Nigm and our MiLA partners at Queen Mary of London and UNAM in Mexico,  presentations were given by four panellists (Pablo Ceriani from from the National University of Lanús in Argentina, Gabriela Ligouri from CAREF Argentina, Jorge Camilo Burgos Moceton from JRS Colombia and Alejandra Macías Delgadillo from Asylum Access Mexico).

This was followed by an interactive Q&A between the panel and 120 attendees joining from LATAM, Europe and North America.

This event created a space for open dialogue with key stakeholders from these countries, hearing from academics and NGOs on their perspectives and experiences of practices and strategies that can promote integration and inclusion in the region and discuss further research proposals with them.
