IEEE working group on Ontological Standard for Ethically Driven Robotics and Automation Systems awarded IEEE-SA Emerging Technology Award

Professor Burkhard Schafer is member of the working group "Ontological Standard for Ethically Driven Robotics and Automation Systems" that was awarded the prestigious IEEE-SA Emerging Technology Award.

The IEEE SA Emerging Technology Award is awarded for the initiation, advancement or progression of a new technology through the IEEE SA open consensus process. The annual award was presented to the working group  “for supporting the development of an innovative ontological standard on the ethics of artificial intelligence”.

IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organisation dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. The Standards Association (SA) is a branch of IEEE dedicated to developing industry standards in a broad range of technologies that drive the functionality, capabilities, and interoperability of a wide range of products and services, transforming how people live, work, and communicate.

The new standard, 7007, also gained board approval after ballot on the 23 September 2021.
