Our Honorary Fellow, Craig Segall, has published an op-ed ‘Some want to ban vital geoengineering research. This would be a catastrophic mistake’ in The Guardian with Baroness Worthington. They argue that as humanity has already unintentionally geoengineered the planet through fossil‑fuel emissions, we should therefore responsibly research deliberate climate interventions.

Rather than banning geoengineering, the authors contend that transparent research which could provide temporary cooling while emissions cuts and carbon removal lag, offers policymakers robust and informed options in a worsening climate crisis.

Craig researches and practices US climate law federally and in the state of California where he has long experience in both the private and public sectors. Craig regularly engages with our LLM in Global Environment and Climate Change Law cohort and has taught on the programme with Navraj Singh Ghaleigh, Senior Lecturer in Climate Law.
