High Profile Conference on Global Finance and its Regulation co-organized by Edinburgh Law School and University of Hong Kong (HKU) in Hong Kong

Prof Emilios Avgouleas co-organised with Professors Arner (HKU) and Buckley (UNSW) a high profile conference on Reconceptualizing Global Finance and its Regulation.

The conference took place in Hong Kong University Law School on 13-14 December 2013. It brought together members of the government of Hong Kong, industry leaders, senior regulators and leading law and finance academics from the US, Europe, Asia and Australia. Eminent speakers included Julia Leung, Under Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Hong Kong SAR Government; Sir William Blair, Justice of the High Court, England and Wales; The Hon. Ronald Arculli, Partner, King and Wood Mallesons and ex-Chairman of the HK Exchanges, and James Shipton, a senior HK regulator.

Prof Avgouleas presented a paper on why banks became too-big-to-fail and chaired the panel on central banks. 

The conference was sponsored by the Theme Based Research Project: Enhancing HK’s Future as an International financial Centre and the Centre of International Finance and Regulation Australia.
