Global Constitutionalism Journal based at the University of Edinburgh
Mon 20 January 2025
We are delighted to share that Global Constitutionalism (GlobCon), a successful journal published by Cambridge University Press is now based at the University of Edinburgh. The journal moved from the University of Southampton in January 2025 and is jointly supported by Edinburgh Law School and the School of Social and Political Sciences (SSPS).
The journal gives the opportunity for both Schools to solidify and strengthen existing connections and to help foster new partnerships. The move has also seen a number of new members from Edinburgh added to the editorial team. The current members from the University of Edinburgh are: Professor Jo Shaw, Editor; Dr Andrea Birdsall, Editor; Dr Jared Holley, Editor; Dr Robert Naylor, Managing Editor; and Professor Neil Walker, Editorial Board.
The partnership builds on longstanding intellectual, research and teaching collaborations between colleagues in Edinburgh Law School and the Department of Politics and International Relations within SSPS.
First published in 2012, GlobCon offers interdisciplinary space for addressing the foundations, limitations and contestations of the principles and norms of political order and their dynamics over time on a global scale.
Each year the journal publishes three issues containing cutting-edge peer-reviewed work which refers to and advances global constitutionalism. The journal is highly interdisciplinary and accepts submissions from a range of disciplines including; International Law, Political Science, International Relations, Comparative Constitutional Law, Comparative Politics, Political Theory and Philosophy. Every year, GlobCon opens up a call for special issues on exciting topics within the global constitutionalism space.
The journal tackles contemporary issues such as the rise in populism, rising geopolitical tensions, and other challenges to political order, exploring how such challenges interact with existing norms and political structures.
Professor Jo Shaw said: “I am very excited to see how Global Constitutionalism is going develop at the University of Edinburgh over the next five years. Our ongoing partnership with Politics and International Relations provides the perfect home for the journal.”
