In February, Edinburgh Law School student Lauren Graham participated in the Student Law Tech Challenge 2019.

Out of around 120 competing students from across the UK, Graham and her partner Chris Ireland from the University of Southampton were chosen as the overall winners of the challenge, with Graham securing her prize of a placement with Wärtsilä.

The challenge, which took place in London, is organised and run by the Society for Computers and Law, an organisation that aims to inform and educate on the impact of IT on law and legal practice.

In order to win the challenge, Graham and Ireland took part in two in-depth tasks over the course of a day-long event, engaging in negotiation and tackling the effects of a data breach.

Graham, who began her LLB at the Edinburgh Law School in September 2018, said that it was an “unbelievable honour” to win the challenge, adding: “I don't think I would have come close to winning without the development of my legal skills at the Edinburgh Law School.”
