ELS team competes in European Law Moot Court competition regional final
Tue 14 April 2020
From 6-9 February 2020, a team from the Edinburgh Law School competed in the regional final of the European Law Moot Court competition. The competition is the most prestigious moot court within the field of European Union Law and one of the most important moot court competitions in the world. Edinburgh Law School has participated in the event for a number of years.
The ELS team that this year qualified to the oral phase of the competition, within the 48 best teams of the written phase, comprised four LLM students: Richard Dreßler, Mattis Leson, Berangere Gladys Maurier, and Héctor Puerto Palomero. The team was coached by Dr Katerina Kalaitzaki, Programme Director for the LLM European Law programme.
The competitors attended the regional final in Lisbon hosted by the Universidade de Lisboa in February, along with 11 other teams from Europe and beyond, where they competed in the roles of Applicant, Defendant, Advocate General, and Legal Counsel. The ELS team performed excellently during the pleadings, while Richard Dreßler, acting as the Advocate General, made it to the semi-finals on the second day of the competition, amongst the four best performances for the role of Advocate General.
All the Regional Finals are now over and we would like to wish the best of luck to all the teams that qualified to the European Finals.
