Edinburgh Primary School Team Crowned UK Champions at National School Tasking Finale

On one of the hottest days of the year, the competition to be crowned School Tasking UK Champion 2025 heated up at Warwick Arts Centre.

After months of regional heats, six teams of Primary 6 [Year 5] pupils from across the UK and Ireland came together to compete in the national grand finale of School Tasking, an educational outreach project inspired by the Channel 4 show Taskmaster. Representing Scotland were Coby, Ella, Emili, James, and Lolah, collectively known as team 'Da Nuggets'from Pirniehall Primary School in Edinburgh.

Hosted by Taskmaster creator and comedian Alex Horne, alongside Dr Ali Struthers, a law lecturer at Warwick University and the creator of School Tasking, the finale saw pupils face several creative and quirky challenges designed to test perception, memory, teamwork, and even their hide and seek skills - hiding while dressed as a fried egg holding a rubber duck is no easy feat.

The competition was fierce, with just two points separating first and second place. But it was Da Nuggets who triumphed, scoring 34 points and earning the title of School Tasking UK Champion of Champions 2025.

Though the tasks may seem light-hearted and unrelated to the law, the initiative is rooted in legal education. Designed to introduce primary pupils to law and legal concepts through fun, interactive activities, the sessions are led by current undergraduate law students, culminating in regional and national finals. This year, over 3,000 children from 34 universities across the UK and Ireland took part.

Mr. Dennis, Da Nuggets’ P6 teacher, reflected on their success:

“Da Nuggets came together so well and showed real teamwork. After three rounds of competition and 3,000 children taking part, they won – what an achievement! I am so very proud of them.”

A proud parent at the finale added:

“I’m absolutely over the moon for the team. After travelling all the way from Edinburgh, they stayed positive and gave it their all. It means the world to them and it’s been such a fantastic experience.”

Edinburgh Law School began running School Tasking in 2022/23, aiming to engage young people with law and higher education from an early age. Equally, the project offers undergraduate law students a chance to build their own skills, all while spreading hope and joy in our local communities.
