In early March, Dr Veronica Ruiz Abou-Nigm, Director of Internationalisation and Senior Lecturer in International Private Law at the Edinburgh Law School, attended the Council on General Affairs and Policy (CGAP) of the Hague Conference on Private International Law (HCCH).

Dr Ruiz Abou-Nigm presented the ‘Guide on the Law Applicable to International Commercial Contracts in the Americas’ at the Council, in representation of the American Association of Private International Law (ASADIP). The guide was recently approved by the Inter-American Juridical Committee at its regular session in February of this year.

Following the presentation, the HCCH General Council included in its ‘Conclusions and Recommendations’ an acknowledgement of the OAS Guide and welcomed the Permanent Bureau’s cooperation with the OAS.

The CGAP, which met from 5th to 8th March, saw record attendance, representing 70 Members including one Member REIO (EU), three non-Member States, and other Observers from three IGOs and nine NGOs.
