Thu 17 March 2022
On Tuesday, 8 February 2022, Edinburgh Law School held the Global Launch of its new advancement and alumni strategy.
Edinburgh Law School has been at the heart of legal education and research for more than 300 years. We are committed to transforming lives through legal education and to inspiring and educating the next generation of national and global leaders by creating a truly diverse community of learning, and our research confronts national and global challenges head on and shapes debate and reform.
The School’s community of alumni has also grown in size and influence since the School’s founding in 1707, and today includes over 16,000 alumni from more than 140 countries.
The Edinburgh Law School Advancement Global Launch brought together Edinburgh Law School alumni and friends from around the world with our staff and students to discuss how individuals and organisations can engage in the life of the School and to hear about our new Programme for the Future of the Study of Law and the Legal Professions, which provides a pathway for the legal profession to easily and sustainably partner with the School on an annual programme of activities for mutual benefit.
Prof Nehal Bhuta, Director of Alumni Relations and Professor of Public International Law, said:
“We are committed to being an ambitious, cosmopolitan centre of thought that has worldwide reach. Edinburgh Law School has always had and will continue to have a profound impact, not just on the careers of our students, but also on their lives and their relationship with the world.
“By revamping our advancement and alumni programme, we are seeking to extend our networks of support and interaction in ways that bring external stakeholders and alumni into the heart of the School.”
Professor Jo Shaw, Head of Edinburgh Law School and Salevesen Chair of European Institutions, further commented:
“There is much to celebrate about what we are achieving together in the Law School, but there is also a great challenge to work together for the future - not only for the School, but also for the legal profession and other groups where legal practitioners are prominent.
“Our future lies in intensified engagement with all our stakeholders, but particularly with our alumni whom we are delighted to be closely in touch with. We want to continue to celebrate their achievements and to explore the different ways we can work together more closely for the mutual advancement of the Law School and its current and future students.”
