Edinburgh Law School joins global and national economic debates

Professor Emilios Avgouleas, Chair in International Banking Law and Finance, has been participating in global and national economic debates in the UK and further afield.

Professor Avgouleas delivered the keynote speech at a symposium on ‘Asian Financial Centres’ Development and Regulation’, hosted by the law schools of the National University of Singapore and the Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

The conference took place at the Koguan Law School of Shanghai Jiao Tong University on 21-22 November 2014, and focused on the present and future challenges facing international financial centres and Chinese Government’s efforts to develop Shanghai as a global financial hub.

Professor Avgouleas also took part in the 14th National Economic Forum, held in in Edinburgh on 10 December 2014.

The Forum’s theme was ‘Rebalancing the Economy and Creating a Fairer more Prosperous Scotland’.

It featured an address by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and a number of panels comprising the entire Scottish cabinet, including deputy First Minister John Swinney.

Professor Avgouleas spoke on the healthy prospects for further expansion of the Edinburgh based financial services industry and highlighted the role that universities can play.

He also talked about the very high quality of Scottish students who currently attend the Edinburgh LLM in International Banking Law and Finance.
