Tue 25 June 2024
The University of Edinburgh and Leiden University will be launching a new interdisciplinary hub in the Netherlands in 2025 which will be known as The Hague Global Futures Hub. Edinburgh Law School is one of the University’s schools that will be involved in interdisciplinary research, and the delivery of joint degree programmes, executive development courses, and new opportunities for student mobility.
Additionally, Edinburgh Law School’s Director of External Relations Dr Jonathan Hardman is part of the Joint Task Force that is working on bringing this collaboration forward. Dr Hardman and Professor Jo Shaw, Salvesen Chair of European Institutions and Head of Edinburgh Law School, celebrated the launch of this collaboration on Monday, 10 June 2024 at The Hague in a conference that included the University of Edinburgh’s Professor Soledad Garcia Ferrari, International Dean for the College of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences and Personal Chair of Urbanism and Resilience.
About this event, Professor Shaw said: “It was a great pleasure to participate in the inauguration celebrations for the Global Futures Hub, along with colleagues from the University of Edinburgh, Leiden University, and a range of other stakeholders in the work of the hub, including government and civil society representatives. At the same time, our visit to The Hague gave us the opportunity to push forward our active collaboration with Leiden University Law Faculty under the new leadership of Professor Suzan Stoter.”
Dr Hardman added: “We are very excited about the launch of the Hague Global Futures Hub. The Hub will help provide an additional framework through which to build on Edinburgh Law School’s strong relationship with Leiden Law School and further connect this relationship to government and civil society. Edinburgh Law School continues to be committed to building and strengthening its international footprint, and welcomes the Hub as an important move in this direction.”
Professor Sir Peter Mathieson, Principal and Vice Chancellor of the University of Edinburgh, added: “This partnership will build upon the complementary strengths of both institutions, and the strategic location of The Hague, to deliver world-class learning and opportunities for our students. The Hub represents a significant step forward in international collaboration, aiming to prepare students and researchers to thrive in a complex, ever-evolving world while contributing to sustainable development and global knowledge exchange.”
The Hague Global Futures Hub will focus on global and interdisciplinary issues, maximising Leiden University’s and the University of Edinburgh’s complementary internationalisations and strengths.
