Natalie Imani

We are pleased to announce that the Board of Examiners of the Swedish Diplomatic Programme has unanimously admitted our Human Rights LLM alumna Natalie Imani to the Swedish Diplomatic Corps as a diplomat following a gruelling recruitment process consisting of numerous interviews, group exercises, essays and exams in three languages.

Natalie’s history is humbling and truly inspirational. She arrived in Sweden twenty-five years ago as an asylum-seeker. The prospect of even becoming a Swedish citizen seemed improbable. She was raised by a single mom in one of the most deprived neighbourhoods in Sweden known for its public housing projects and high crime rates. Natalie has been working since she was sixteen and is the first person in her family to attend university.

On her first day of Law School, she was asked by a professor what she aimed to do upon graduation. Since she had made it further than anyone she knew, she felt comfortable expressing her aspiration of becoming a diplomat for the very first time. She was promptly advised to prepare a back-up plan.

Today, she is one of twenty candidates out of a thousand applicants to be offered a permanent position with the Swedish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.

We hope, with Natalie, that this serves as an inspiration to pursue your pipe-dream despite the hurdles that may come your way.

Stort grattis Natalie! We wish you many happy returns and a lot of success in your new career.
