Edinburgh Law School alumna Jacquelyn MacLennan elected as RSE Fellow

Jacquelyn MacLennan has been elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh (RSE), a richly deserved honour that recognises her outstanding contributions to the legal profession and to public life in Scotland. This distinction places her among a distinguished community of leaders in academia, business, and civic society who have demonstrated exceptional achievement and impact.
The RSE, Scotland’s National Academy, exists to advance learning and make knowledge useful for the benefit of society. Fellowship is awarded through a rigorous nomination and selection process, recognising individuals who have attained the highest levels of excellence in their fields. Election to the RSE is one of the highest accolades in Scottish public and professional life.
Jacquelyn MacLennan’s career exemplifies these qualities. Widely respected for her expertise, leadership, and integrity, she has made a significant impact not only to the development of the legal sector, but also through her commitment to supporting and mentoring others. Her contribution reflects a deep dedication to excellence and to the broader public good.
Her connection with Edinburgh Law School makes this recognition particularly special. She graduated from the School’s LLB programme in 1983 and went on to complete her Diploma. She later became a partner at the global law firm White & Case, specialising in EU competition law, business and human rights, ESG and EU trade issues.
As an alumna, Honorary Professor, and co-Chair of the School’s Advancement Committee, she has maintained a strong and valued relationship with the Law School over many years, and has shown unwavering support for the School’s mission and community. Through her engagement, she has helped strengthen connections between the legal profession and the University, enriching the experience of students and colleagues alike.
