Dr Raphaële Xenidis presents research on Artificial Intelligence and Gender Equality in Europe at ERA seminar

Dr Raphaële Xenidis, Lecturer in EU Law at Edinburgh Law School, delivers a series of research talks following her research into matters such as artificial intelligence, gender equality and algorithmic discrimination.

On Wednesday 2 December, Raphaële presented her research on Artificial Intelligence and Gender Equality in Europe, as well as work on Algorithmic Discrimination - at the ERA Academy of European Law ‘Current Reflections on EU Gender Equality Law’ annual seminar. The virtual seminar was open to University professors and law lecturers from the EU, Iceland or Liechtenstein, it showcased current reflections by academic experts on the state of play and future development of EU gender equality law.

The event, organised in the framework of the Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme, covered these key topics:

  • Work-life balance
  • Algorithmic decision-making
  • New forms of work
  • Equal pay CJEU case law
  • Sexual harassment
  • Gender-based violence
  • Online hate speech

Following on from this, Raphaële will present a report which she co-authored with Prof Janneke Gerards on Algorithmic Discrimination in Europe commissioned by the European Commission at the annual legal seminar of the European Network of Legal Experts in Gender Equality and Non-discrimination Law.

Raphaële will also be speaking on Algorithmic Discrimination at the ‘Algorithms, Discrimination and Digital Rights’ international conference organised by the SHINE Erasmus+ project.
