Dr Morgera invited to draft international guidelines on responsible agricultural investment
Tue 18 March 2014
The guidelines aim to help investors identify and avoid infringing international standards of responsible business conduct in the agricultural sector with a view to exercising due diligence and ensuring that investments are sustainable and bring long-term benefits to home and host countries, especially small-scale farmers and rural communities. The draft guidelines will be considered by a multi-stakeholder Advisory Group on Responsible Business Conduct along Agricultural Supply Chains throughout 2014.
Dr Morgera already acted as an international consultant for the OECD and FAO, in 2012, when she prepared the background documents that informed the decision to develop international guidelines on responsible agricultural investment. She also prepared, as a consultant for FAO in 2013, the background documents that informed the development of the draft principles for responsible agricultural investments which enhance food security and nutrition due to be adopted by the Committee on World Food Security in late 2014.
Dr Morgera is Director of the LLM Programme in Global Environment and Climate Change Law and has recently been contracted to prepare the second edition of her monograph Corporate Accountability in International Environmental Law by Oxford University Press.
