Dr Kasey McCall-Smith, Senior Lecturer in Public International Law at the Edinburgh Law School, has written a feature article for The Scotsman newspaper on the subject of the 'enhanced interrogation' techniques employed at Guantánamo Bay Naval Station.

The article, which appeared on Wednesday 4 March 2020, is based on Dr McCall-Smith's work on the effects of torture on fair trial rights, and examines the use of these practices at Guantánamo and their significance for the ongoing pre-trial phase of the 9/11 case. Since her first visit to Guantánamo Bay in 2016, Dr McCall-Smith has returned to the Naval Station nine times as part of her project.

The article can be read online on the Scottish Legal News website.

This article comes ahead of Dr McCall-Smith's appearance at the Filmhouse cinema in Edinburgh on Saturday 7 March, where she will take part in a Q&A session following a screening of the film 'Eminent Monsters: A Manual for Modern Torture'. Director of the film Stephen Bennett will also answer questions at the screening. Find more information on the Filmhouse website.
