Dr Lachlan Urquhart co-edits second edition of Law, Policy and the Internet

Dr Lachlan Urquhart, Senior Lecturer in Technology Law and Human-Computer Interaction at Edinburgh Law School, has co-edited the second edition of Law, Policy and the Internet, published by Hart Publishing/Bloomsbury on 18 September 2026.
The book is co-edited with Emerita Professor Lilian Edwards (Newcastle University), currently a visiting scholar at Edinburgh, and Dr Catalina Goanta of Utrecht University.
This second edition covers an expanded range of digital topics, with a particular emphasis on the regulation of AI, platforms and information. Its 14 chapters include contributions from scholars at Cambridge, UCL, Sussex, Essex, Leeds and Glasgow, alongside the editors, and cover topics including platform liability, AI (including a deep dive on the EU AI Act), copyright, privacy and data protection, adtech regulation, social media, chatbots, the gig economy, cybersecurity, and surveillance and policing.
A companion website accompanies the book, offering multimedia resources for readers wanting to explore specific topics further, introductory material for those unfamiliar with the EU legal system, and teaching resources.
The book has a long history connected to Edinburgh, with over 30 years of previous editions under various names and editorial teams.
