Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Edinburgh Law School, Dr Kathryn Nash, has received funding as part of a project with the University of Edinburgh School of GeoSciences.

The project will use satellite data to formulate a new vulnerability index that will map where negative environmental and socio-economic conditions overlap to cause heightened risk of food insecurity and conflict. This is a matter which affects the lives of millions of people across the world and is increasingly concentrated in conflict-affected regions, the disruption of food intake or eating patterns due to a lack of money and other resources can be both a cause and a consequence of conflict.

Funding for this ambitious project comes through the Scottish Funding Council Data-Driven Innovation (DDI) programme, an initiative which supports research partnerships between academics and industry to deliver benefits in the public, private and third sectors.
